Singing Back the Buffalo, a new documentary directed by award-winning Cree filmmaker Tasha Hubbard, premiered at Montana's Big Sky Documentary Film Festival last week.
Rooted in Indigenous knowledge and relationship with the Buffalo, the film provides a powerful example of the role Indigenous solutions play in strengthening culture and building prosperous and thriving communities.
Through the voices of Indigenous leaders and communities, this documentary signals a turning point. It demonstrates what is possible when we uplift Indigenous innovations and leadership, and act in alignment with self-determination; Buffalo can return, providing pathways for vibrant economies, opportunities for education and learning, ecosystem revitalization, and strategies to mitigate the effects of the climate crisis.
