li toneur de la tayr (Michif: land thunder) by Métis artist and graphic designer Jordan Skipper. “This design is inspired by the buffalo's resilience, from struggle and near extinction to thriving, growing populations. The unhidden Buffalo shakes the earth with each step. The florals transition from faded, hidden and in the background to bursting with colour and full of life. A celebration of our peoples, presence & strength.”
“This historic agreement is an example of educational and economic reconciliation and responsibility in action. It is reflective of the strong and respectful relationship that First Nations University of Canada and the Mastercard Foundation have developed while building this partnership, which is focused on systemic, deep-seated change that supports Indigenous students and communities.”
—First Nations University of Canada President, Mizowaykomiguk paypomwayotung, Dr. Jacqueline Ottmann
On June 14, the Mastercard Foundation EleV Program and First Nations University of Canada (FNUniv) shared news of a transformative collaboration which marks a pivotal moment in Indigenous education.
Through this partnership, FNUniv will achieve full academic and financial autonomy, empowering the institution to expand community-led programming across Saskatchewan and Canada to support success for Indigenous young people.
Driven by a vision of collective action in service of self-determination, the partnership seeks to strengthen Indigenous education and prosperity today and for future generations.
As people and communities across Canada recognize June as Indigenous History Month and June 21 is National Indigenous Peoples Day, the partnership with FNUniv provides a powerful example of how the philanthropic sector can support Indigenous institutions in alignment with self-determination.
